The countdown for prom, that special night that all girls were waiting for, has started. It’s time to choose your prom dress and plan all details of that magic evening – how exciting! Whether you have already picked your dress or still can’t decide between those two that caught your fancy, there are a few things you should know about shopping for prom. Make sure you include all the points below in your checklist and tick all boxes before your big night. We’ll include a few prom dress suggestions along the way!
Your dress might need alterations
It’s good that you know that not all dresses will fit you like a glove and that has nothing to do with you. Each body is unique and that’s what makes us beautiful. Your prom dress might need minor adjustments and that’s ok. Don’t leave everything for the last minute, make sure you purchase your dress with time and try it as soon as possible so you have time for any alterations, if needed.

Try to match your date
Talk to your date. There’s no need to spoil the surprise and show him your dress before the day. Instead, you can ask him to see what he will be wearing. In case he hasn’t bought his suit yet, you can choose your dress first and tell him what colour to get for a tie. You don’t necessarily need to be wearing the same colour, but it’s good that you and your date are matching!

Wear your shoes in advance
This is a great tip that (almost) all girls forget. Whatever shoes you pick, you’ll have to wear them the whole night! This is not to say that you shouldn’t wear high heels. It’s your moment and you should look glorious. For many girls, prom is the first time they wear them. With some practice beforehand, you’ll confident and ready to dance all night. Even for those who wore high heels before, new shoes can be quite uncomfortable. Try to wear them once before prom night, if you have the chance. If not, wear them a few times around the house.

Get the right underwear
Spaghetti straps, bardot necklines, off the shoulder tops… More often than not, the design of prom dresses and bra straps don’t match. Once you choose your dress, have a look through your underwear drawer and see if you have what you need. Some girls might not need a bra at all. Others might need a strapless or a low-back bra. Another common issue is when the dresses are see-through. In this case, buy an underwear set of the same tone of your skin or the closest possible. If the dress is tight, beware of the dreaded VPL! There are countless options for seamless panties.

Be bold and creative with accessories
A watch, necklace, bracelet set or a pair of earrings are most welcome – but not all at the same time! Accessories can be the cherry on top of the cake, but don’t overdo it. Sometimes less is more and, when it comes to accessories, they add to your look when they show your good taste and personality. Earrings are commonly the same colour as your dress, but it doesn’t have to be this way. You can match your earrings with your shoes or clutch.
