Classy Ways to Style a Midi Dress Over 40
A dress is a highlight in a woman’s look. Midi dresses are indispensable in both summer and autumn seasons but many women over 40 worry about how they will look on them. They are often self-conscious about giving the impression of trying to look younger, whilst avoiding looking older than they are too. Here are some suggestions on how to style a midi dress in a classy way when you’re over 40:
This Red Short Sleeve Midi Dress (£21.00) is a must-have in your wardrobe. A simple and yet charming dress thanks to its lively pleated detailing in the front. Wear it with high boots on cloudy or rainy days and you’ll invite the sun to shine again. Alternatively, ankle boots with tights will also look great with this dress and it’s a good option for autumn.
Wearing a belt might be the simplest way to style a midi dress but you’ll be surprised with the massive difference it makes. Belts are one of the most uplifting accessories a woman can wear. Our Black Midi Dress with Gold V-Neck (£28.00) is great to do that. Try different types of belts: thinner and wider, with round and square-shaped buckles or with a knot. Don’t worry if your waist is not very narrow; wear it slightly above the waist and it will still look flattering. This dress is slightly oversized, allowing you to recreate your waistline.
Wearing a turtleneck underneath your midi dress is another classy way to style it. It will agree with the leg split of this Blush Floral Print Midi Dress (£58.00). However, the plunging v-neck and shirred waistband and cuffs would make it a very bold look. Alternatively, you can try with a simple floral long sleeve dress.
In the autumn and in the evenings, an open cardigan on top of a midi dress is a classy way to wear it, especially with a single colour dress such as our Blue Heart Neck Midi Dress (£45.00). A knitted jumper on top is another great option. It will look like a midi skirt and knitted top set so it allows you to make different combinations.
If you go for a jumper instead of an open cardigan, a longer sized dress works better than a shorter one and bright colours and floral prints are very welcome with white, peach and khaki tops.
Finally, a more playful but still classy way to style a midi dress over 40 is adding a shirt and tying it with a knot. It’s a great look for the summer so try it with floral print dresses like our Blue Floral Patch Wrap Midi Dress (£45.00). Denim and white shirts are one of the best combinations, but with blush or white dresses you can go for bold shirt colours such as pink, orange or even yellow.
