80's Rave and Neon Lights

You may remember last week that we were taking a look at all things 90's? Well for this weeks blog entry we're going back a few years further to the late 80's as inspiration where everything was bold, bright and VERY loud! This spring the runways were raving with bold patterns and bright neon's  think 80's highlighter hues with a hint of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air thrown in for good measure.

Bold patterns as seen on the likes of Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince can also be seen as a big influence on this seasons runways, as can 89 rave culture, instantly recognizable by the infamous yellow smiley face reference in the Moschino Cheap and Chic SS’11 shows.

And taking its cue from the catwalk, the red carpet has been quick to follow suit with an explosion of neon brights seen at some of our favourite celebrity events including the Met Ball, Cannes Film Festival, and MTV awards.

As you may have noticed these looks are definitely not for the faint hearted! If you don’t fancy going the whole hog you can invest in some neon accessories like these brighter than bright satchels, or opt to highlight neutral basics with more subtle accents of neon as seen at the DVF S/2011 shows.

And as its Friday what could be more fitting than to play out with the new video from the Friendly Fires entitled Live These Days Tonight - utilizing actual footage from the 89 rave scene it' a work of genius! Wishing you all a wonderful weekend (even if you'e not out raving!) Gx
