A Movement in Music!

by Goddiva Fasion 08 Jun 2010
Goddiva Team, Zoe and I were part of music history on Sunday night!! Massive fans since we were 15, we were lucky enough to get a free Rage Against The Machine ticket. Thanks to a Facebook campaign started by 2 people who were sick to death of Xfactor being the Christmas number 1 for 5 years in a row - they started the group to try knock Xfactor's Joe McElderry off the Christmas number 1 spot in favour of anti-establishment Rage Against The Machine's classic 1992 anthem, " Killing in the name of". The Facebook group gathered pace very quickly and the band were gobsmacked and promised us a free gig if they got to the Christmas number 1... and they did... and made music history!! What an amazing night - the fact that all those people (40,000) were there to rage against the machine (or to beat the system and manufactured pop music) and show their support for real music was just electrifying! You could feel it in the air! When I look back at the footage, I cannot believe how many people were there - literally a sea of people rocking it out for a very good cause!! I also had a chance to take in all the gig fashion - and there were people from all walks of life - rockabillies, skaters, goths, jocks, rasta's and lots of pierced and tattooed people; an interesting mix and great seeing us all unite for RATM!

Definitely the best gig I have been to this year!! They'll also be at Download Festival this year, see them if you can!! Getting home was another story!! The streets were blocked off and traffic came to a complete standstill! People were climbing on to busses and bus surfing, climbing on to traffic lights and cheering making the rest fo the street cheer :D It was like a massive street carnival. The tubes were only letting a certain amount of people on so most of us had to find our own way home... luckily Finsbury Park is great for bus routes! The gig ended at about 10:30 and I only got home at 2am... good times! To be honest I think this moment in music history is going to be as memorable and talked about as The Woodstock Festival is! Anway I was sat back at work on Monday morning with only 4 hours sleep and a verrry, very strong coffee - but it was all so worth it !! Thanks to Jon and Tracey Morter, RATM and everyone who bought their single!!! This week is quite a big week with regards to events... we had the MTV Movie Awards, the Bafta's and the World Cup kicks off this Friday with the opening ceremony on Thursday night!!
